(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team had another tough outing, playing well but coming up short. The Devils suffered a 3-1 setback to visiting Gettysburg, under the lights at Miller Memorial Field on Wednesday night.
The Bullets capitalized on three corner kicks to put goals on the board. The first was actually an own-goal, putting Gettysburg up, 1-0, in the 39th minute of the contest. A nicely served ball from senior Tara Crowley found its way into the penalty area and deflected off a Red Devil.
Gettysburg took advantage of another corner kick, just three minutes into the second half. Senior Mallory Sheer redirected a serve from Cailin DiGiacomo to extend the Bullet lead to 2-0. Julia Ramsey would later convert another nice cross from Crowley as Gettysburg tallied all three goals off corners.
The Red Devils were holding their own on the pitch, despite the score. They continued to battle with sophomore Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) working her way into the attack and finding the back of the net in the 78th minute.
Dickinson held solid possession all night and played relatively even with the Bullets throughout the match.
Eliza Gray made six saves in the nets for Gettysburg as the Bullets improve to 8-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Sophomore Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) made four saves while the Red Devil defense played a pair of dangerous balls off the line as well.
Dickinson slips to 5-5-2 overall and 1-2-2 in Centennial Conference play. The Red Devils travel to Washington College on Saturday. Opening kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
