(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's and women's swim teams opened competition at the Gettysburg Invitational on Friday night.
Facing strong competition from Johns Hopkins, Mary Washington and host Gettysburg, the Red Devils turned in some strong individual performances.
Junior Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison) placed fourth in the 200 butterfly, clocking a time of 2:11.27.
The Red Devil women finished sixth in the 400 free relay. First-year Emily Houser (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) swam the lead leg as they clocked a time of 3:41.31. Houser placed ninth in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:13.09.
Sophomore Caitlin Klockner (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) anchored the free relay and placed sixth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.83.
First-year Tanita Leary (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and sophomore Katie Nirenberg (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) swam the middle legs of the free relay.
On the men's side, senior Jason Adams (Kingston, Jamaica/Kent School, Conn.) touched the wall sixth in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 47.15. He joined the 400 free relay for a seventh place finish, posting a time of 3:15.39.
Brandon Gauthier (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) anchored the free relay and placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.56.
Junior Chris Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) joined the free relay and placed ninth in the 200 backstroke (2:00.86).
First-year Alex Bennett (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) swam the lead leg of the free relay while sophomore Brendon Walsh (Chelmsford, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) added an eighth place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:12.44).
The Red Devils return to Gettysburg on Saturday for day two of the Invitational.
