(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season, winning their Centennial Conference opener, 73-52, over visiting Haverford College.
The Red Devils jumped out to an early, 5-0 lead, and led 7-2 before the 'Fords made a run, tying the game with 12:17 remaining in the first half.
Haverford held a one-point advantage at the 11:19 mark, but Dickinson went on an 8-0 clip to lead, 22-14, with 7:52 to play in the half. The 'Fords answered and cut the deficit to 27-24, at the break.
Senior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) knocked-down a three-pointer to open the second half. Gibby Graves answered on the other end before the Red Devils erupted with a 16-2 run, stretching the lead to 46-29, with 14:47 remaining in the game.
Haverford chipped away at the lead once again, cutting the margin to single-digits at the 11:34 mark. Dickinson responded to gain its biggest advantage of the night, 65-46, with just over four minutes to play.
First-year Brian Lissak (New York, N.Y./Columbia Prep) knocked-down a pair of free throws in the final seconds for the final of 73-52.
Junior Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) posted a double-double with game-highs of 14 points and 13 rebounds. In addition, he dished out a game-high six assists and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) hit a trio of three-pointers and finished with 14 points and two steals. Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) turned in another strong performance, scoring 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go with six rebounds and three blocked shots.
Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) and Honig each tallied nine points and combined for seven rebounds on the night.
Four players scored 11 points for Haverford as they slip to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Brett Cohen added seven points, two assists and a pair of blocks to his 11 points to lead the way.
The Red Devils travel to Gettysburg College on Tuesday night. They tip-off against the Bullets at approximately 8:00 pm, following the women's game at 6:00 pm.
