(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead at McDaniel College on Tuesday night and never looked back, improving to 3-0 in the Centennial Conference and 5-1 overall. The Devils opened up a 34-17 lead at halftime and went on to win, 64-52.
Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) and Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) triggered the strong start. Collins drained a three-pointer to stretch the Dickinson lead to 14-2, with 10:47 remaining in the first half. Landy knocked down another to extend to margin to 19-4, just over a minute later.
The Red Devils pulled in front by 19, three times in the first half. Senior Brian Gerney (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) buried a three-pointer to close out the half with the Devils on top, 34-17.
The Red Devils continued to build on the lead and were in control for the majority of the second half. They stretched the margin to as many as 22, and held off a late rally for the final of 64-52.
Playing without an injured Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), junior Pete Yingst (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) earned the start and turned in a strong performance at the point, dishing out three assists.
Collins scored a game-high 21 points, controlling four rebounds while handing out three assists and blocking three shots. Landy finished with 14 points and two assists, hitting 4-of-5 three-pointers on the night.
Sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) hit a trio of three-pointers, scoring nine points and recording a game-high four steals. Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) and Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) each pulled down five rebounds. Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) tallied six points, going 4-for-4 from the line.
The Green Terror (3-2, 1-2) was led by Phillip Perry with 11 points while Evan Pupelis added eight points and six rebounds.
The Red Devils return home to face Swarthmore College on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
