Diplomats Take Top Spot, Devils Earn #2-Seed

Box Score

(Lancaster, Pa.) – In a showdown for the Centennial Conference regular season title, Franklin & Marshall capitalized on home court and senior day to post the win and secure the top seed in next weekend's tournament. The Diplomats used a strong start and played well throughout the second half to post a 64-34 decision.

The Red Devils struggled in the early going, and could never seem to get their rhythm. Much like the Devils did to the Diplomats early in the game at the Kline Center, F&M got off to a strong start and carried the momentum throughout the contest.

F&M jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Devils answered to pull within one, 12-11, with 6:24 left in the half. Dickinson would not score for the remainder of the half as the Diplomats stretched the margin to 25-11, at the break.

The Devils opened the second half with a modest 9-5 run to pull within 10 at the 14:18 mark. That would be as close as they would be as the Diplomats continued to build on the lead, pulling in front, 48-27, with 7:39 remaining.

Jon Salandra led all scorers with 13 points, adding seven rebounds and a pair of steals. Hayk Gyokchyan recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Matt Porter added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Diplomats (19-6, 14-4).

Sophomore Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) returned to the line-up and led the Devils with 11 points. Senior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School, Conn.) tallied seven points and three rebounds while junior Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) added six points, and Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) led the Devils with eight rebounds.

The Red Devils slip to 18-7 overall and finish 13-5 in Centennial Conference play. The #2-seeded Devils will square-off against #3-seed, Johns Hopkins, in one of the semifinal match-ups next weekend at Franklin & Marshall.
