(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team turned in a pair of strong performances on Saturday, but dropped a pair of matches at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic. The Devils suffered a 3-1 setback to Gallaudet and fell to Penn State Altoona, 3-0.
Gallaudet opened with a 25-16 decision in the first set before the Red Devils answered with a 25-18 win in the second. Dickinson remained competitive in the final two sets but came up short, 25-20 and 25-21.
Senior Emily Kisak (Columbia, Md./Howard) led the attack with 11 kills, adding a pair of aces and three blocks. Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) tallied seven kills to go with an ace and seven digs.
Laura Silverman (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) had another solid outing, adding seven kills, two blocks and a pair of aces. Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) chipped in with six kills and two blocks.
Sophomore setter Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) handed out 19 assists and picked up six digs. Senior Joanna DeCastro (Far Hills, N.J./West Morris Mendham) played strong defense, recording 10 digs and two blocks. Senior Grace Morgan (Williamsburg, Va./York Suburban) added nine digs.
In their second match, Altoona posted a 3-0 win, but the Devils again simply came up shy. The Lions claimed the first set, 25-18, and survived a marathon second (28-26) to lead 2-0. Altoona held on in the third, 25-21, to close out the match.
Smith reached double-digits with 10 kills while Silverman added eight and DeCastro tallied seven. Morrissey matched her earlier total with 19 assists. Morgan and first-year Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) each had four digs.
The Red Devils slip to 1-3 overall. They travel to the Susquehanna Invitational next weekend.
