Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Setback at Alvernia

Box Score

(Reading, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team suffered a tough, 1-0, loss at Alvernia University on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils outshot the Crusaders, 12-5, and held a 6-3 edge in corners but were unable to capitalize with a goal.

Alvernia found the net in the 68th minute when Bridget Verdel got past the Red Devil defense, scoring off an assist from Bri McGrath.

The Devils continued to press on offense for the final 20 minutes. First-year Jackie Geisler (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) had a final shot in the final minute, but Colleen Maher made the save to preserve the win.

Maher made five stops on the night while the Red Devil defense held the Crusaders to just a pair of shots on goal and made a save off the line behind goaltender Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate-Rosemary Hall).

The Red Devils slip to 3-2-1 overall. They travel to Swarthmore on Saturday for a 7:00 pm kick-off.
