Box Score
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team enjoyed homecoming, posting a 31-7 victory over visiting Moravian College on Saturday afternoon at Biddle Field.
Sophomore running back Shawn Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep) turned in an outstanding performance, rushing for a career-high 230 yards and two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Cole Ahnell (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) added 50 yards on the ground and threw for 189 on the day, completing 12-of-21 passes.
The Red Devils definitely had the momentum on offense, piling up 493 yards total yards. Senior captain Todd Smolinsky (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) made four receptions for 81 yards, diving into the end zone in the second quarter while junior Eric Ondo (Richland, Pa./ELCO) made a great, diving 39-yard catch.
The Red Devil defense was relentless as well, picking-off six passes, one shy of the school record. Six different players tallied interceptions while sophomore Anders Overhaug (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) blocked a punt and Mark Manganaro (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) returned it for a touchdown.
Wilson put the Devils on the board in the first quarter, scoring on an 11-yard run. The Greyhounds answered almost immediately as Robbie Moyer connected with Jimmy McCarthy on a 62-yard scoring strike.
It would be pretty much all Dickinson from that point. Smolinsky dove to the pylon at the midpoint of the second quarter to put the Devils back on top, 14-7. Less than two minutes later, Overhaug broke through to block a punt and Manganaro carried the ball 18 yards into the end zone.
Wilson broke away from 41 yards out to stretch the lead to 28-7, with 9:13 remaining in the third quarter. Junior Adam Kaminski (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) closed out the scoring with a 38-yard field-goal to end the third quarter.
The scoring may have stopped but the excitement carried into the fourth quarter. The defense took center stage, recording back-to-back interceptions from senior captain Michael Miller (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and first-year Pat Irwin (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle).
Miller finished with a team-high seven tackles, matching sophomore Jake Myers (Middletown, Del./St. Andrew's), who tallied seven solo stops. Manganaro added six tackles and an interception to his touchdown.
Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Jack Margavitch (York, Pa./Dallastown) added interceptions as well.
The Red Devil offensive line had one of its best outings of the season. The Devils had rushed for 304 yards and covered another 189 through the air. Ahnell received solid protection as well, being sacked just once on the day.
Moyer completed 9-of-15 passes in the first half, covering 110 yards, adding 35 yards on the ground. Corey Clemons came on for the second half, completing 9-of-17 for 92 yards. Brendan Downey led the defense with 15 tackles, including 11 solo stops.
The Greyhounds fall to 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson improves to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the CC. The Red Devils travel to Lancaster next Saturday to face Franklin & Marshall for the Conestoga-Wagon trophy. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
