(Collegeville, Pa.) –The Dickinson men's basketball team rolled past Ursinus College, 94-70, to remain unbeaten in the Centennial Conference at 6-0. The Red Devils improved to 11-2 overall on the season.
The Red Devils opened the game with three straight three-pointers. Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) put Dickinson on the board and Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) doubled the lead on the next possession.
Sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) answered an Ursinus lay-up with another three-pointer, putting the Red Devils out in front, 9-2, with just over 16 minutes to play in the first half.
Dickinson continued to build on the lead, stretching the margin to 19-6, at the midpoint of the half. Angradi got hot again, draining back-to-back three-pointers to give the Devils a 33-12 advantage at the 4:52 mark.
Junior forward Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) led the way as Dickinson closed out the half strong, leading 44-22, at the break. He didn't miss a beat as the second half began, scoring the first bucket of the half, and later added a three-point play and a dunk to put the Devils in front, 56-27, at the 16:19 mark.
Hong drained his fourth triple of the game for a 61-33 advantage, just a minute later. The Bears showed some life with a 7-2 stint, cutting the Dickinson lead to 63-40.
The spark was short-lived as the Red Devils regrouped to remain in complete control of the contest. Angradi knocked-down a three-pointer and hit a lay-up on the next possession, making the score 77-45. The Devils went in front by 31, their biggest lead of the game, with just over seven minutes remaining.
Wixted recorded a double-double, matching a game-high with 22 points while controlling 12 rebounds. He went 9-for-11 from the field, adding a pair of assists and two blocked shots. Senior Tom McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) was perfect from the floor, hitting 9-of-9 shots, adding 4-of-6 free throws for a game-high 22 points as well.
Angradi finished with four three-pointers for 14 points while Honig added 12, hitting four three's as well. Collins controlled 11 rebounds, adding seven points and three assists.
Senior Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) dished out a game-high seven rebounds, grabbing four rebounds.
The Red Devils had another strong performance from long range, hitting 11 three-pointers. They were dominant on the glass, holding a 46-28 advantage in rebounds.
Jesse Krasna led Ursinus (2-11, 0-6) with 18 points and six assists. Ryan Adams hit a trio of three-pointers for 13 points while Malik Draper reached double-figures with 10 points.
The Red Devils return home to take on Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
