Red Devils Improve to Program-Best 8-0 in Centennial Conference

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team received a strong challenge from host, Haverford College on Saturday, but held on for a 77-72 win, on the road. The Red Devils remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference play, improving to a program-best 8-0 on the season. They improve to 13-2 overall.

 

The teams played even in the opening minutes as the game was tied for the third time, 10-10, at the 13:27 mark. Haverford scored back-to-back field-goals to pull in front, 16-12, with just under 12 minutes remaining in the half.

 

Sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) knocked-down a three-pointer and Brian Gerney (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) pulled down a rebound and scored on the other end to put Dickinson back on top, 17-16.

 

Haverford answered and led by six, 25-19, on a Brett Cohen lay-up, at the 8:24 mark. Cohen scored with 4:22 remaining in the half to make the score, 33-27, Haverford.

 

The Red Devils would hold the 'Fords scoreless for the remainder of the half, putting together a 15-0 run to take a 42-33 lead into halftime.

 

After the break, the Red Devils looked like they would take control of the game, pulling in front, 48-35, on back-to-back three-pointers from Angradi and junior forward Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic), in the opening minute.

 

The momentum continued to swing as Haverford cut the deficit to six, with 16:05 to play, before the Devils countered to stretch the margin to 13 once again, at the 12:47 mark. The Red Devils kept control of the game. However, Haverford would slowly chip away at the lead.

 

Anthony Reyes hit a big three-pointer to make the score, 67-61, at the 8:01 mark. He knocked-down a pair of free throws to pull the 'Fords within a field-goal, 71-68, with 3:28 to play in regulation.

 

Senior guard Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) fed Wixted for a lay-up and sank a pair of free throws on the next possession to stretch the lead back to seven, with 2:44 left in the game.

 

Haverford continued to chase the Devils, but Dickinson would hold on for the win, 77-72.

 

Wixted was a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring a team-high 22 points and controlling nine boards. He hit 10-of-12 field-goals and blocked a pair of shots to break the school record with the 103rd and 104th of his career.

 

Angradi finished with 15 points, sinking a trio of three-pointers to go with an assist and a steal. Senior Tom McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) reached double-figures, scoring 12 points behind a 6-for-7 performance from the free throw line.

 

Honig ran the offense in the playmaker role, dishing out a game-high six assists to go with seven points and three steals. Senior Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) tallied six rebounds, four points and three assists on the afternoon.

 

Cohen led Haverford (5-8, 1-7) with a game-high 22 points, adding three assists and three steals. Lucas Colombo and Reyes each finished with 15 points.

 

The Red Devils (13-2, 8-0 CC) travel to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
