Red Devils Suffer First Conference Setback

(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team suffered its first Centennial Conference setback of the season, falling at Franklin & Marshall, 67-58, on Wednesday night.

 

The game was a see-saw battle throughout the first half. Sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) knocked-down a three-pointer to put Dickinson in front, 5-4, at the 16:53 mark.

 

The Red Devils stretched the advantage to three, but F&M would answer to lead, 12-11. Angradi sank a three-pointer to regain the advantage, 14-11, with 11:22 remaining in the half. Angradi would hit another  triple at the 10:51 mark, putting the Devils up, 17-14.

 

The Diplomats made a run, scoring the next nine points to lead, 23-17, and led 27-20, with just under six minutes to play in the half. Senior captain Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) hit a three-pointer and handed out an assist to Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College).

 

Angradi tied the game with a pair of free throws with 3:27 on the clock. Landy and co-captain, Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) each scored to put the Devils up, 31-27. They held a 31-29 lead, heading into halftime.

 

F&M scored the first six points of the second half to pull in front, 35-31. Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) scored and converted a free throw, to pull the Devils back within one.

 

The Diplomats held a 47-40 advantage at the midpoint of the half, and would stretch the lead to double-figures, 54-44, with 8:09 remaining in the game. A Terrel Phelps free throw gave the Diplomats their largest lead, 59-48, at the 4:24 mark.

 

Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) scored for the Devils but Cedric Moune answered with a pair of free throws to lead, 61-50.

 

Honig hit a free throw and Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) put back a rebound for a three-point play. The Diplomats kept the Devils' hopes alive with some struggles at the free throw line. Honig scored before F&M worked the lead to 64-55.

 

Angradi hit a three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 64-58. F&M would close the out game with three more trips to the line for the final of 67-58.

 

The loss is the first in Centennial Conference play this season. The Red Devils set the school record for the best start in conference, in program history at 8-1. They slip to 13-3 overall.

 

Angradi led the Red Devils with 14 points, hitting four three-pointers on the night. Tom McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) reached double-figures with 10 points.

 

Landy finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Wixted went 5-for-5 from the free throw line, scoring seven points and controlling five rebounds. Honig tallied five points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

 

Matt Porter led all scorers with 18 points. Moune finished with 16 points and seven rebounds as Franklin & Marshall improved to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the Centennial Conference.

 

The Red Devils travel to Swarthmore College on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
