(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team rebounded with a big, 80-52 win at Swarthmore College on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils, coming off their first conference loss of the season, erupted early, rolling out to a 17-5 lead in the opening eight minutes of the game. Dickinson stretched the lead to 16 on a Tom McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) jumper, making the score 27-11, with 7:04 remaining in the first half.
The Red Devils held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half. Pete Yingst (Hanover, Pa/Hanover) hit a pair of free throws to give Dickinson a 41-25 advantage at the break.
The Devils continued to roll in the second half, quickly extending the lead to 20 points on a three-point play by senior guard Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), just two minutes into the half.
McInerney converted a pair of free throws to put Dickinson on top, 56-29, with 13:05 remaining in the game. The Devils did not let up down the stretch, as the lead reached as many as 33 in the final minutes.
Dickinson saw 12 players mark the scoring column on Saturday, led by a game-high 21 from Honig. Honig hit 7-of-9 free throws, adding three assists and a pair of steals on the day.
McInerney finished with 11 points, hitting 4-of-5 shots from the floor and 3-of-4 from the line. Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) reached double-figures with 10 points while sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) went 5-for-5 from the line, scoring eight points and handing out a pair of assists.
Jay Kober led Swarthmore (5-12, 2-8) with 11 points while Karl Barkley added 10.
The Red Devils improve to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Muhlenberg College on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.
