Late Goal Hands Devils Second Loss

Box Score

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The #22-ranked Dickinson women's soccer team suffered its second loss of the season, falling 1-0 at Gettysburg College on Wednesday night.

The teams played back and forth through a scoreless first half. The better part of the match was in the midfield as the teams combined for just seven shots in the opening 45 minutes.

The Bullets put together two strong chances early in the second half. They would finally break through as Brigid Behan made a strong move to slip inside the area and put the ball in the left corner of the net with just over 24 minutes remaining.

The Devil defense came up huge later, clearing a sure goal off the line with a header and then blocking another shot attempt on the rebound.

Dickinson had a great opportunity at the 11 minute mark, but the lead pass was just off the mark and into the hands of Gettysburg goalkeeper Eliza Gray.

Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) came up with another big stop with nine minutes to play as Hannah Theurer made a cut back on the left side and tried to put a shot inside the near post.

The host Bullets outshot the Devils, 14-2 in the second half, forcing a pair of corners. Gray finished with three saves as Gettysburg improved to 8-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the Centennial Conference.

Armour made eight saves for the Red Devils as they slip to 10-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference. They return home to face Washington College on Saturday with the opening kick-off set for 1:00 pm.
