(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Gettysburg College on Wednesday night. The Bullets used strong starts in the opening two sets to take an early advantage.
The Bullets took an early lead in the opening set, but the Red Devils answered to pull even, 4-4. The Bullets put together a run to take a 12-5 advantage. Back-to-back service aces by Hannah Bentz put Gettysburg up, 15-7.
The Red Devils came back, cutting the deficit to 16-11 behind a pair of kills from Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) before the Bullets built the lead to 21-13, and closed out the set, 25-15.
A Bongo service ace triggered a 4-1 start for Dickinson in the second set. Laura Bergin led the Bullets back, tying the match 6-6. Maddie Wiekert recorded a block and two kills as the hosts opened a 15-9 lead.
The Bullets stretched the margin to 17-10, forcing a Red Devil timeout. They went on to claim the second, 25-12.
Gettysburg continued where they left off, jumping out to an 8-1 start in the third set. The Bullets led 15-6 when the Devils put together a rally, scoring five straight points. After back-to-back points by the Bullets, the Devils cut the lead to 17-14.
The Bullets scored four straight to force a timeout at 21-14. Hannah Dallman scored the final three points for Gettysburg as they closed out the match, 25-16.
First-year Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) led the Red Devil attack with 10 kills on the night. Classmate Lauren Beecher (Madison, Mass./Madison) added five kills while Bongo finished with four.
Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) tallied 20 assists and Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded 10 digs.
Bergin led Gettysburg with 10 kills as they improve to 16-8 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 5-11 and 1-5. Dickinson returns home to face Washington College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
