(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team dropped another tough match, falling to visiting Washington College, 3-1, on Saturday.
Washington jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and later put together a 4-0 run to lead, 17-7. Junior Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) tallied back-to-back kills in a 3-0 stretch for the Devils, but Washington would go on to claim the opening set, 25-13.
Dickinson had a stronger start in the second set, playing to a 7-7 tie. The Shorewomen took control of the set with a 10-2 run to lead 17-9. The visitors closed out the second set, 25-14, led by Jess Daunoras with four kills and a pair of aces.
The Red Devils regrouped to capture the third set and extend the match. Smith served a pair of aces to put Dickinson in front, 9-5. The Devils held the lead throughout the set, with Washington pulling within one at 14-13.
Dickinson led 20-15 before the Shorewomen looked to rally, pulling even at 21-21. The teams traded points to pull even at 23-23, but Lauren Beecher (Madison, Mass./Madison) and Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) recorded a kill and service ace to take the set, 25-23.
Washington broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth set and would lead the rest of the way. The Red Devils continued to battle, trailing by just two at 10-8. The Shorewomen started to pull away, taking a 13-8 advantage. They stretched the lead to double-figures at 22-12, and would go on to win the match with a 25-15 decision.
Kristin Lee led Washington (16-7, 1-5) with a match-high 18 kills and three aces while Daunoras added 10 kills and a pair of aces.
Beecher led the Red Devils with 10 kills while classmate Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) tallied eight. Junior Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) dished out 35 assists and sophomore libero Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded a match-high 12 digs.
The Red Devils slip to 5-12 overall and 1-6 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday for a 7:00 pm match.
