(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team scored first but visiting Ursinus College answered and went on to post a key 2-1, Centennial Conference win on Saturday at Miller Memorial Field.
Junior Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) put the Red Devils on the board in the 14th minute. Senior Allie Young (New Canaan, Conn./St. Luke's) headed a cross directly to the foot of Lamb, who had a great look at the goal.
Ursinus quickly answered, netting the equalizer just 38 seconds later. Erin Farrell headed in a blocked shot that spin under the crossbar to tie the game, 1-1.
The Bears found the game-winner off a corner kick in the 28th minute. Julia Senkevich served the ball to Jacqueline Smiler, who fired a shot through a crowd and into the net.
Senior Kerri Bergin (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) and Hannah Matlack (Needham, Mass./Noble & Greenough) anchored a solid defensive effort, with strong play on the outsides from Michaela Donohue (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) and Jillian Marini (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) as well.
The Red Devils outshot the Bears, 20-12 as Courtney Sullivan made nine saves for Ursinus. Junior Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) made eight saves in the nets for Dickinson.
Prior to the game the Red Devils honored their five seniors, Bergin, Donohue, Young, midfielder Cate Maugle (Glenmoore, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and forward Jess Swain (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends), for their commitment and dedication to the women's soccer program. The seniors have all made major contributions to the success of the program. The class has an overall record of 41-21-4 over the past four seasons.
The Red Devils are 11-4-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Franklin & Marshall for the regular season finale, next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
