(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday, opening with a, 3-1, Centennial Conference win over visiting Ursinus College. The Red Devils suffered a 3-0 setback to Lebanon Valley in the nightcap. The Dutchwomen also posted a 3-0 win over Ursinus.
The Red Devils outlasted the Bears in a pair of tight sets to take a 2-0 lead. Dickinson won the opener 25-23, and worked overtime to claim the second, 30-28.
First-year Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) recorded five kills in the opening set to lead the attack while classmate Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) added four.
Beecher tallied four kills in the second while junior Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) added to the offense at the net.
Ursinus extended the match with a 25-17 decision in the third set as the Devils were held to just seven kills. Dickinson regrouped and won the match with a 25-20 score in the fourth.
Beecher finished with 17 kills and a pair of blocks while Chan recorded 11 kills and four solo blocks. Smith reached double-figures with 10 kills, adding 11 digs and an ace. Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) tallied three solo blocks, three kills and an ace.
Sophomore libero Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) tallied 28 digs in the match. Jenn Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) handed out 44 assists and picked-up 12 digs. Bongo had seven kills and seven digs, and Emeline Jones (Hamilton, N.Y./Hamilton) recorded nine digs as well.
Lebanon Valley claimed three straight go 2-0 for the day. Misrok had 13 digs in the nightcap while Morrissey added 14 assists. Beecher and Chan combined for nine kills at the net.
The Red Devils move to 6-14 overall and 2-7 in the Centennial Conference. They close out the regular season next Saturday at Franklin & Marshall where they will face the Diplomats and Cabrini College in a tri-match.
