(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team saw its playoff hopes slip away in overtime, falling 1-0 at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
The battled and bruised Red Devil squad knew they would not have an easy finish in the season finale in Lancaster. They came out ready and had a strong start, forcing three corners in the opening minutes.
Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) hit the cross bar in the 10th minute. She bookended the half with a shots on goal in the eight minute and the 44th, forcing saves from Shannon Johnson-Finn.
The Devils drew a corner kick in the first two minutes and Johnson-Finn turned away a shot by Nicole Fronsdahl (Groton, Mass./Groton), off the serve from classmate Bridgette Corbran (Manasquan, N.J./Wall).
The Diplomats countered, going on the offensive as junior goaltender Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) made three saves in a four minute span.
The Devils held a 4-2 advantage in corners in the second half but the Diplomats had a slim edge in shots, 5-4. Johnson-Finn tallied a pair of saves in the second half to keep the match scoreless.
F&M ended the match as Brianna Reid intercepted a pass and played the ball to Nicole Rynecki who put the ball in the right side of the net.
Johnson-Finn finished with four saves for the Diplomats. Armour tallied eight saves for the Red Devils as they slip to 11-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference. With a win on Saturday, Swarthmore bumped the Devils from the conference playoffs, moving into the fifth spot at 6-4.
