#7-Ranked Red Devils Suffer First Setback

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #7-ranked Dickinson men's basketball team never seemed to find its rhythm on Tuesday night, suffering its first loss of the season as they fell to visiting Gettysburg, 67-61.

Local product Tanner Kirkpatrick put the Bullets on the board with a three-pointer to start the game. That field-goal came at the 17:30 mark and would prove to be the only scoring in the early minutes.

Senior Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) put the Devils on the scoreboard at the 13:44 mark with a pair of free throws. He added a lay-up and later dished an assist to first-year Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) for a three-pointer to stretch the Devils' lead to 9-3, with 10:26 remaining in the half.

Junior Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) hit a three-pointer to give Dickinson a 12-5 advantage. The Bullets went on an 8-0 run to pull in front, 13-12, and sank four three-pointers in the final two minutes of the half to lead, 31-22, at the break.

Junior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) went on a run of his own, scoring seven straight points for the Devils, capped by a three-point play to pull Dickinson within five at 36-31.

The teams traded baskets before a steal and lay-up from Joe Emerusabe gave Gettysburg a nine point advantage with 11:17 remaining in the game.

Senior guard Pete Yingst (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) answered with a three-pointer to trigger an 11-4 run by the Devils. Angradi hit a three-pointer and senior Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) found Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) for a lay-up and then buried a three-pointer to make the score, 46-44.

The Devils struggled on the offensive end as Gettysburg built the lead back to 11, with 2:50 left to play. The Devils went to the long ball and almost closed the gap, hitting five triples in the final 2:29.

Stenger drained three during the run, with his final cutting the lead to just four, 65-61, with eight seconds on the clock. A pair of Pete Christ free throws led to the final score of 67-61.

Hinnenkamp led the Devils with 18 points and six rebounds, adding three blocked shots and a pair of assists on the night. Stenger finished with 12 points, hitting 4-of-7 three-pointers. Wixted was a basket shy of a double-double, scoring eight points to go with a game-high 12 rebounds.

Christ led Gettysburg (4-1, 2-0 CC) with 22 points while Kirkpatrick finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Red Devils slip to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference. They have a big match-up on Saturday, traveling to Cabrini to face the 18th-ranked Cavaliers. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
