(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's swim team held off visiting Messiah College, 109-96, in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday night at the Kline Center.
The Red Devils captured wins in just five events, but solid performances to claim multiple second and third place finishes led to the victory. Senior Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison) won both distance events, touching the wall first in the 1000 and 500 yard freestyles.
Sophomore Emily Houser (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle and was second as the anchor of the 200 medley relay and in the 50 freestyle. Classmate Tanita Leary (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) joined the medley relay, adding a win in the 200 free and a third place showing in the 100 butterfly.
First-year Callie Miles (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) won the 100 backstroke and swam the lead leg of the medley relay. Classmate Elizabeth Smith (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) posted a pair of seconds in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.
Sophomore Jacqulyn Teller (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) was just eight hundredths of a second behind Smith in the individual medley and added another third place finish in the breaststroke. She also swam with the medley relay.
Senior Johanna Fleming (Northampton, Mass./Northampton and first-year Devon Korhammer (Easton, Pa./Moravian Academy) added second place showings in the 100 free and 100 backstroke events, respectively.
The Red Devils improve to 6-2 overall. They travel to Gettysburg on Friday and Saturday for the Gettysburg Invitational.
