Solid Shooting Leads Red Devils Past Washington 79-69

(Chestertown, Md.) –The Dickinson men's basketball team came away with a big road victory, winning 79-69, at Washington College on Saturday.

 

The Shoremen scored first but the Red Devils answered with three straight baskets. Sean Brooks knocked-down a second three-pointer for Washington to tie the game at six. The game was tied again, 20-20, at the midpoint of the half.

 

Dickinson went on a 15-4 run to take an 11-point lead with 4:05 remaining. Sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the rally and tacked on another to close it out with the Devils on top, 35-24.

 

Brooks hit a three-pointer and sophomore Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) hit a free throw and scored on a lay-up to give Dickinson a 38-27 advantage at halftime.

 

After the break, the Red Devils quickly stretched the margin to 16. Tom McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) came off the bench to spark Dickinson to its biggest lead of the game, converting a three-point play at the 11:38 mark to make the score, 56-38.

 

Washington chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit to five, 63-58, with six minutes remaining in the game. The Devils built the lead back to 12. Brooks followed a Dave Knox three-pointer with a basket to cut the lead to eight. Hinnenkamp hit a pair of free throws for the final of 79-69.

 

Brooks finished with a game-high 25 points adding five assists to lead Washington (5-14, 4-8). Tony Hawkins added 18 points and three assists. The Shoremen were perfect from the line, but the Devils only allowed six attempts on the afternoon.

 

The Red Devils were 22-for-27 from the line, shooting 82 percent for the game, and doubled-up the Shoremen on the boards, 42-21.

 

Wixted led the Red Devils with a double-double, scoring 20 points and controlling a game-high 15 rebounds. He went 10-for-12 from the line and handed out five assists.

 

Four Devils reached double-figures. Angradi went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, scoring 14 points. Hinnenkamp went 8-for-9 from the line, adding 12 points and two assists, and senior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) added 10 points and five rebounds.

 

The Red Devils improve to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in the Centennial Conference. THey return home to face Gettysburg College on Wednesday night. It is RED OUT NIGHT at the Kline Center for the 6:00 pm tip-off.
