Red Devils Overtake Mules 92-86 for 20th Win

(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team avenged one of its Centennial Conference losses with a thrilling 92-86 win at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night. The Red Devils, who have already clinched the top seed in the conference playoffs, improve to 20-4 overall and 15-2 in the CC.

 

The Mules battled throughout the game, right to the final buzzer. The Red Devils overcame a 44-40 deficit at halftime and knocked-down 12 three-pointers and 14-of-21 free throws on the night to hold off the hosts as both teams scored 33 field-goals. The Devils hit 33-of-58 shots while the Mules hit 33-of-60.

 

Junior forward Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) scored the first eight points for Dickinson as they jumped out to an 8-4 lead. Muhlenberg would answer as the teams played to a 20-20 tie, at the midpoint of the half.

 

Trailing 20-14, sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) hit back-to-back three-pointers to knot the game.

 

The Mules stretched a late lead to seven at the 1:36 mark. Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) knocked-down a three-pointer and scored again to cut the margin to a field-goal. Brandon Bovino scored with just four seconds to play in the half, putting Muhlenberg in front, 44-40.

 

Mulhenberg held the advantage in the early minutes of the second half. The Red Devils were able to pull even, but no gain the lead. That changed with a 10-0 run to give Dickinson a 62-53 lead, with 13:22 remaining in the game.

 

Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) put-back a miss to give Dickinson a double-digit lead, 71-61, with 9:03 on the clock.

 

Angradi would hit a big three-pointer in the final minute and Honig found Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) ahead of the pack for a dunk to extend the lead to 10. Honig then hit 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to secure the win for Dickinson.

 
 
 

The Mules were solid from the three-point line, keeping the Red Devils within striking distance. Jon Schreer hit a triple to pull the hosts within four, with 3:19 to play.

 

Five Red Devils reached double-figures on the night. Honig led the way with 18 points, five assists and two steals while Wixted finished with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

 

Cox pulled down a team-high seven rebounds to go with 11 points and four assists. Landy and Collins each scored 11 points and combined for eight rebounds. Angradi went 3-for-5 from the arc for nine points.

 

Austin Curry hit 7-of-8 three-pointers for a game-high 23 points while Malique Killing added 17 points and a game-high nine assists. Muhlenberg falls to 15-9 overall and 10-7 in the Centennial Conference.

 

The Red Devils return home for the regular season finale against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The women tip-off at 2:00 pm, followed by the men at 4:00 pm. The "REDOUT" event, originally scheduled for earlier this month will take place on Saturday.
