(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team stormed out of the gates, opening a big lead on visiting Gettysburg College in the first half on Wednesday night. The Red Devils held the Bullets to just 16 points in the first half, taking a 42-16 lead at the break. They went on to post a 67-55 win at the Kline Center.
The Bullets struck first and led for just over a minute. Dickinson answered with a Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) three-pointer and never looked back. The Red Devils stretched the lead to 16-5 at the 14:15 mark, and held a 21-5 advantage at the midpoint of the half.
Dickinson closed out the half with a 7-2 run over the final 3:37 to lead by 26 at the break. The Devils continued to stretch the margin in the early minutes of the second half. Gettysburg settled in and was able to match the Devils in scoring but the hosts still managed to extend the margin to 30 points, midway through the second half.
Gettysburg was able to close the gap over the final five minutes, cutting the deficit to a dozen in the end. The Red Devils shot the lights out in the first half. They shot 56 percent from the field and a remarkable 55 percent from three-point land. The Devils also went 6-for-6 from the line in each half, finishing 12-for-12 for the game.
Junior Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting, adding five rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Classmate Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) reached double-figures with 11 points, igniting the crowd with a pair of rim shaking dunks. He added a game-high eight rebounds as well.
Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) each added eight points. Landy added eight points as well, leading the charge in the opening minutes and throughout the first half.
Cody Keifer led Gettysburg (9-11, 7-6) with a game-high 18 points while Joe Emerusabe added 12 and Sango Amolo reached double-figures with 11 on the night.
The Red Devils improve to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Ursinus College at 2:00 pm.
