Red Devils Top Catholic 3-0 in Season Opener

Box Score

(Washington, D.C.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team opened the 2014 season with an impressive, 3-0, win at Catholic University on Friday afternoon.

The Red Devils tallied three goals in the second half, led by senior back Drew Carneal (Woodbine, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) with a goal and an assist.

Sophomore Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) put Dickinson on the board, scoring off a cross from Carneal in the 51st minute. Junior Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy) found the net, going right up the middle, off a beautiful feed from senior midfielder Nate Latshaw (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) at the 58:47 mark.

Carneal put the finishing touches on the afternoon, scoring with just under 23 minutes remaining in the contest.

The game was even, statistically, as the Red Devils held a slim advantage in shots, 13-12. Senior goaltender Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) made five saves in the nets while his teammates helped out with a pair of saves as well to help secure the shutout

Torsten Meuschke made six saves for Catholic as they slip to 0-1 on the season.

The Red Devils are in action again tomorrow afternoon for the second round of the "Turk" D.C. Classic, returning to Catholic to face SUNY Fredonia at 1:00 pm.
