#4 Red Devils Suffer Second Setback 67-54

(Baltimore, Md.) – The #4-ranked Dickinson men's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season, falling at Johns Hopkins 67-54, on Wednesday night.

 

The Blue Jays scored the first six points of the game and jumped out to a 10-2 lead behind six points from George Bugarinovic. Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) and Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) knocked-down back-to-back three-pointers to pull the Devils within a field-goal.

 

Junior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) scored a pair of lay-ups and Wixted buried another three-pointer to put Dickinson on top, 19-16, with 11:01 remaining in the first half.

 

Hopkins went on a 16-3 run to take a 32-22 advantage at the 4:34 mark, capped by a three-pointer from Kyle Doran. Junior Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) caught fire, draining a trio of three-pointers down the stretch to cut the deficit to four at halftime, 37-33.

 

Angradi was solid on the defensive end as well, holding Jimmy Hammer to just six points in the first half. Hinnenkamp added a field-goal in the late run as well, leading all scorers with 10 points at the break. Wixted tallied eight points and eight rebounds in the first half as well.

 

Wixted hit a three-pointer and made a nice move to the basket to quickly cut the lead to one in the early minutes of the second half. Hopkins countered with a series of three-pointers to take a 52-39 lead, with 9:27 remaining in the game.

 

The Red Devils traded baskets with the Blue Jays but could not cut the deficit to under 10. Hopkins hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final minute.

 

Wixted led all scorers with a game-high 17 points, recording a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds as well. He went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and handed out a pair of assists.

 

Hinnenkamp finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Angradi tallied nine points while Collins added seven points and three assists.

 

Bugarinovic led the Blue Jays (12-2, 6-1) a double-double, scoring 14 points and controlling 10 rebounds. Gene Williams went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.

 

The Red Devils slip to 12-2 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Haverford College on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
