(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team played a solid match against visiting Johns Hopkins on Wednesday night at Miller Memorial Field. The Blue Jays tallied a pair of late goals to post a 5-1 decision, but the match was much tighter than the score would indicate.
The Red Devils had a great chance, right out of the gate but sophomore goaltender Clara Aranguren came up with a big save, just five minutes into the contest.
The Blue Jays would counter and finish on the other end as Alaina Arthur put Hopkins on the board in the sixth minute. Hopkins doubled the lead, capitalizing on a well-placed corner from Vania Ludman, right to the head of Meg Van de Loo for a 2-0 lead.
The Red Devils would answer with a beautiful header of their own to cut the deficit to 2-1, with 20:27 remaining in the first half. First-year Samantha Knapp (Washington, D.C./CESJDS) served a great cross to the center of the goal mouth where a waiting Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) redirected a header into the back of the net.
Ludman served up her second assist of the night to give the Blue Jays a 3-1 advantage in the 52nd minute, setting up another header. This time is was Hope Lundberg on the receiving end of a serve to the far post.
First-year Kristin Hori broke free down the left side of the field and into the penalty area to tally a fourth goal for Hopkins. She later added an assist with Alexa Rangecroft heading the ball in on a back post cross.
The Red Devils played well throughout the match, creating some strong opportunities. The put four shots on net as Aranguren finished with a pair of saves while her defense cleared a ball off the line as well.
Senior Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate-Rosemary Hall) turned in a strong performance, making seven saves on the night for the Red Devils. Lamb battled throughout the match as well, firing off seven shots, putting four on target.
The Blue Jays improve to 10-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 7-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the CC. Dickinson is on the road this Saturday, traveling to Ursinus College for a 1:00 pm match with the Bears.
