(Elizabethtown, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team challenged host Elizabethtown in every set, but dropped a 3-1 decision on Wednesday night.
The Blue Jays won the opener, 25-21, before the Devils pulled even with a 25-20 win in the second. Elizabethtown closed out the match, winning the third set, 25-20, and the fourth 25-21.
The teams played to a 9-9 tie in the first before the Blue Jays tried to pull away, taking a 22-18 lead on the way to claiming the set. In the second the Devils erased a 9-5 deficit to take a 12-11 lead. They stretched the advantage to 16-11 behind a kill from Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and three Blue Jay errors.
Elizabethtown cut the margin to 21-18 but the Devils closed out the set to even the match, 1-1. The Blue Jays broke a 10-10 tie in the third with a 10-3 run. Dickinson closed the gap to 21-18 before falling 25-20.
Red Devil errors gave the Blue Jays a 6-0 lead to start the fourth before cutting the deficit to one on an ace from Smith. Elizabethtown went on a 7-0 run but Dickinson would counter with a 5-0 clip with two kills by Smith to pull within 21-19. The Blue Jays captured the set and the match, 25-21.
Junior libero Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded a match-high 30 digs, adding four assists and two service aces.
Sophomore middle Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) recorded 13 kills, three block assists and two aces while Smith finished with nine kills 14 digs and three aces. Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) and Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) combined for 14 kills.
First-year Hannah Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) dished out 18 assists and tallied 15 digs while sophomore Kelly Quinn (Madison, N.J./Madison) handed out 13.
Elizabethtown improves to 17-13 on the season while the Red Devils slip to 8-16 overall. Dickinson returns home for the season final on Saturday, hosting Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 pm.
