(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to visiting Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon in the Kline Center.
The Red Devils honored seniors Mairi Poisson (Cheshire, Conn./Miss Porter's School), Rachel Smolskis (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) before the match.
The Diplomats jumped out to a quick start before the Red Devils pulled within one at 6-5. An 8-2 run put the visitors in front, 14-7. Dickinson battled back to cut the margin to three at 15-12, and trailed 17-14 before F&M closed out the first set, 25-19.
Another quick start saw F&M take a 5-0 lead in the second, on the way to a 25-11 decision. The Red Devils came out strong in the third and trailed just 8-6 before F&M started to pull away. Dickinson was within four at 16-12, but the Diplomats came alive with a strong finish to win the match, 25-13.
Ellie Ezekiel led the Diplomats with a match-high 15 kills while Allison Edelstein handed out 34 assists.
Smith led the Red Devils with six kills, seven digs and a pair of service aces. Sophomore Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) tallied six kills, including four in the opening set. Classmate Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) added six kills as well.
Smith finishes her career fifth all-time in career kills with 752, adding 597 career digs and 97 service aces.
Junior Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded a match-high 16 digs. She raised her season total to 454 to finish third on the school's single season list. She moves into seventh on the all-time list with 861 in her career.
First-year setter Hannah Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) handed out 16 assists and recorded five digs on the day.
The Red Devils finish the season 8-17 overall and 2-8 in the Centennial Conference.
