Tale of Two Halves Favors Terror 4-0

Box Score

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team was even with unbeaten McDaniel College at halftime. The Green Terror came alive in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals to improve to 12-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference.

McDaniel had an early chance, drawing a corner kick, just 5:14 into the match. The Red Devils countered with back-to-back corners, two minutes later. First-year Briona Davis (Franklin Park, N.J./Franklin Park) put a shot on goal but Sarah McDonald was there to make the save.

Christina Wroblewski and Nicole Hill were able to put shots on target for McDaniel but sophomore goaltender Amanda Masterson (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex) came away with a pair of saves for the Red Devils.

Dickinson's best chance came on a penalty kick in the 27th minute, but the shot was saved by McDonald to keep the match scoreless at the break.

McDaniel forced a corner in the first minute of the second half and would capitalize as Kristen Upton redirected a header off the serve from Hill, to put the Terror on the scoreboard. McDaniel struck again, countering off a save by McDonald to take a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute. Maggie Quinn hit a shot from the top left of the box, scoring off an assist from Lindsey Farrell for her sixth goal of the season.

Upton tried a repeat performance on another corner but the header went wide. First-year Olivia Termini (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) had a header off a corner in the 68th minute, but her shot was wide of the post as well.

McDaniel stretched the margin to three, scoring on a corner with 18:48 remaining with Jess Beall finding the net, directly off a serve from Abby Keen. Wroblewski closed out the scoring at the 15 minute mark, gaining possession and firing off a quick shot for the final of 4-0.

McDaniel earned three corners, late in the match, but came away empty as the Dickinson defense held. The Red Devils had a great chance on a final counter, sending a shot off the crossbar and forcing a save from Haley Jacobs as time was winding down.

Masterson finished with four saves while McDonald and Jacobs combined for seven stops. McDaniel held a slim shot advantage, 14-10, but had a 13-6 edge in corners on the afternoon.

The Red Devils slip to 5-4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. They return home to face Bryn Mawr College on Saturday with the opening kick-off set for 1:00 pm.
