#12 'Fords Hold Off Devils 1-0 for CC Title

Box Score

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team gave #12-Haverford College all it could handle in the Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon.

A hard fought battle came to a bitter end with Haverford being awarded a free kick at the top of the penalty area with less than 30 seconds to play in regulation. A quick whistle on the restart gave Will Corkery a great opportunity as he finished with a shot to the far post, netting the game-winner with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation.

That would be enough as the 'Fords captured the title to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Despite the loss, the Red Devils turned in an outstanding performance all over the field. Junior goaltender Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Sebastian's Prep) was solid in the nets for the Red Devils and finished with four saves.

Sophomore Will Bracken (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) produced some great chances on the front line, just missing wide of the post on two occasions. Senior Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy) and sophomore Matt Edmonds (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) combined for six shots, putting two on the net as Sam Miller finished with four saves for Haverford.

Sophomore Chris Pollock (Salem, Va./North Cross) played well in the midfield, quarterbacking the Red Devil attack while Ian McManness (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Ryan Brown (Schnecksville, Pa./Moravian Academy) created some strong chances as well.

Junior Austin Thames (Frederick, Md./Frederick) made some strong attacking runs from his outside back position while senior Ned Wagner (Washington, D.C./Upper Canada College) and junior Macsen Pritchard (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) anchored the defense in the middle while Lucas Masiado (Ambler, Pa./Saucon Valley) shut down the right side.

The Red Devils kept the pressure on, holding possession for the better part of the second half. They made a strong push at the 20 minute mark, forcing two big saves by Miller and creating some danger with back-to-back corners.

The 'Fords were able to create some opportunities on the other end, but the Red Devil defense held strong for the entire match.

Dickinson held an 18-10 shots advantage in the match and forced six corners while allowing just three on the defensive end.

Haverford improves to 16-3 overall. The Red Devils slip to 12-4-3 on the season. Dickinson will now wait for a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced on Monday.
