(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #11-ranked Dickinson men's basketball team posted its third consecutive 20-win season, improving to 20-4 overall with a 53-43 win over Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night.
A slow start offensively for both teams led to a 4-4 tie at the 14:20 mark of the first half. Junior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) scored and hit a pair of free throws to double up the Mules, 8-4.
Brandon Larose and Owen McLeod countered for Muhlenberg to knot the game, 8-8. The Red Devils went on an 8-0 run to create some separation, pulling in front 20-12, at the 6:09 mark. Muhlenberg pulled within five before Hinnenkamp scored to close out the half with Dickinson leading, 27-20.
Junior Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) knocked down a three-pointer top start the second half and Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) scored off an assist from Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) to quickly stretch the lead to 12.
Muhlenberg answered with an 8-0 run to claw back within four, with just under 15 minutes remaining. The teams traded baskets with the Mules cutting the deficit to 38-35, with 8:20 remaining in the game. Senior guard Pete Yingst (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) buried a huge three-pointer on the Devils' next possession and Hinnenkamp stretched the lead back to eight points.
The Mules made a final push, pulling within four once again, with 5:19 remaining in the game. Hinnenkamp scored back-to-back lay-ups, the second off a beautiful backdoor feed from Angradi to extend the lead to eight. Angradi went 5-for-5 from the line in the final minute to secure the win for the Red Devils.
Hinnenkamp led the way with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Wixted finished with a game-high 11 rebounds to go with a pair of field-goals. Angradi scored 15 points and handed out three assists while going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) added six points and four rebounds while Cox dished out three assists and played solid defensively all night.
Larose led Muhlenberg (11-13, 6-11 CC) with 10 points and seven rebounds. John Hunter grabbed nine rebounds to go with six points on the night.
The Red Devils improve to 20-4 overall and 13-4 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Franklin & Marshall for the regular season finale on Saturday, tipping off at 3:00 pm.
