(Montclair, N.J.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team traveled to #15-ranked Montclair State University on Saturday. The Red Devils jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Red Hawks would rally and sruvive a double-overtime decision, 9-8.

Both goaltenders had strong starts before senior George Mazarakis (Montclair, N.J./Kent) started things off in his hometown, putting the Red Devils on the board, with 9:30 remaining in the first quarter. Sophomore Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) struck just 30 seconds later and again at the 6:45 mark to put Dickinson up, 3-0.

The Red Hawks capitalized on an extra-man opportunity as Brett Mangan scored off an assist from Michael Schreck, with 4:58 to play in the first.

Junior Rob Kendall (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) closed out the quarter with a goal with just four seconds remaining to stretch the margin to 4-1.

Mangan and Schreck combined to cut the lead in half with Mangan scoring at the 13:07 mark to open the second period. The Red Devils forced a turnover and junior Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) found the net to give Dickinson a 5-3 advantage with 3:22 remaining in the first half.

Greg Castro (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) won the face-off but Lucas Jones came up with a save for Montclair. Michael Jevic finished an assist from Shane Raymond and Connor Cunningham picked-up a wide shot and scored to pull the hosts within a goal, with just 52 seconds on the clock to make the score, 5-4, at halftime.

Castro won the face-off to start the second half. He controlled the ground ball went scored to give the Devils a quick two-goal advantage. The Red Hawks answered with back-to-back goals to pull even at the 8:03 mark of the third quarter.

Mazarakis put the Devils back in front, netting an assist from Austin Dodson (Bethesda, Md./Landon) with 3:13 on the clock. The Red Hawks knotted the game once again in the final minute of the quarter with an unassisted goal from James Clark.

Menard put the Devils back on top, scoring off an assist from Kendall, with 3:19 to play in the game. Montclair was able to extend the game, finding the net with just 43 seconds on the clock. Cunningham scored off an assist from Mangan to force overtime.

The teams played scoreless through the first overtime period. Montclair capitalized on a Red Devil penalty, finding the net on a third shot attempt as Michael Schreck tallied the game-winner.

Mazarakis, Menard and Llewellyn each finished with a pair of goals for the Red Devils. Castro won 13-of-22 face-off on the day and controlled seven ground balls.

Michael Smith (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) controlled four GBs and caused a key turnover at the end of the first overtime. Junior goaltender Nick Baxter (Boxford, Mass./Governor's) made 18 saves in the nets.

Mangan and Schreck each tallied two goals and two assists to lead Montclair (2-0) while Lucas Jones finished with 13 saves on the day.

The Red Devils slip to 1-2 on the season. They return home to face another nationally-ranked opponent, hosting No. 8 Cabrini next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
