VIDEO | No. 4 Dickinson v. Gettysburg - J. Melton '18

(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The #4-ranked Dickinson men's basketball team improved to 18-2 on the season, posting a 72-60 win at Gettysburg College on Wednesday night.

The game was back-and-forth in the early minutes with the teams playing to a 16-16 tie at the midpoint of the half. Junior guard Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) sank a three-pointer from the wing, but picked-up his second foul on the other end, looking for his second blocked shot of the night.

The Bullets hit both free throws before Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) knocked-down a free throw and Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) buried a three-pointer from the corner.

Cox led the charge with a beautiful reverse lay-up and baseline jumper as Dickinson stretched the lead to 29-22. Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) found first-year Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) under the basket for a three-point play.

The Bullets worked the ball inside for a pair of lay-ups to keep pace with the Devils. Dickinson closed out the half with a three-pointer from Collins, a nice fast-break lay-up by Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and two free throws from Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) to lead, 39-26 at the break.

Wixted led the Devils with 12 points while Hinnenkamp went 3-for-3, scoring seven points and handing out three assists. Collins added three assists as well, scoring five points in the first half.

Gettysburg cut the lead to just seven in the opening minutes of the second half. Senior Pete Yingst (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) struck for the Red Devils, hitting a three-pointer to put the Devils up by 10. Wixted added a triple as well to make the score, 45-32, with just under 15 minutes remaining.

Gettysburg made a five-point run to cut the deficit to eight at the 13 minute mark. Chris McNeal (Collegeville, Pa./Episcopal Academy) sank a jumper from the foul line and Hinnenkamp got fouled on a dunk attempt, converting both free throws for a 49-37 advantage.

A three-point play by Sean Gordon cut the lead to nine, but Wixted countered on the other end with a three-point play of his own. The Devils forced a turnover and went right back to Wixted, who scored to stretch the margin to 54-40, at the midpoint of the half.

Free throws from Angradi and Melton gave Dickinson a 58-43 lead. The Bullets struggled from the foul line but managed to chip away from the stripe to pull within 11 at the six minute mark. Kevin Gladstone added a jumper to cut the lead to single-digits.

Angradi answered on the Devils next trip and Romocki added a free throw to give Dickinson a 12-point advantage. The Devils forced another turnover and went to Angradi for a three-pointer to make the score, 64-49.

The Red Devils held the margin down the stretch, using three-pointers from Yingst and Wixted to secure the win, 72-60.

Wixted led the way with a game-high 24 points, adding eight rebounds and hitting 4-of-5 free throws. Angradi reached double-figures with 14 points. Hinnenkamp tallied nine points and three assists while Melton finished with seven points and three assists as well.

Kevin Gladstone and Gordon each finished with 17 points to lead Gettysburg (11-9, 7-6 CC).

The #4-ranked Red Devils improve to 18-2 overall and 11-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Ursinus College for a 4:00 pm tip-off.
