(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's swim team suffered a 117-76 setback at Gettysburg College on Wednesday night. The Red Devils had some strong individual performances but the Bullets scored early to claim the win.
First-year Brenna Nimkoff (Weston, Conn./Weston) swam well in the distance events, placing second in both the 1000 and 500 yard freestyles. Senior Carla Vazquez-Ramos (Arlington, Va./Arlington) was third in the 1000 as well.
Sophomore Emily Houser (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) won the 100 backstroke, placed second in the 50 freestyle and swam the lead leg of the 200 medley relay, claiming third. Classmate Jacqulyn Teller (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) placed first in the 100 breaststroke and added third place showings in the 400 individual medley and the medley relay.
Senior Caroline Brennan (Madison, N.J./Madison) captured silver in the 200 freestyle, bronze in the 100 butterfly and anchored the 200 free relay to a first place finish. Classmate Johanna Fleming (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) was second in the breaststroke.
First-year Kayleigh Wright (Hanover, Mass./South Shore Charter) placed third in the 200 freestyle and joined the free relay. Classmate Devon Korhammer (Easton, Pa./Moravian Academy) and senior Alex Melchiorre (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) also swam with the free relay. Korhammer joined sophomore Tanita Leary (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) to round out the medley relay.
Both Dickinson and Gettysburg programs sported gold caps in honor of a fundraising event to help battle pediatric cancer with the Make Some Noise for Kids Cancer Foundation. The organization's founder Malcolm Sutherland-Foggio attended the meet and spoke with swimmers from both programs.
The Red Devils slip to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore College for a 2:00 pm start.
