Bears Topple #4-Ranked Devils 53-50

Box Score

(Collegeville, Pa.) – The #4-ranked Dickinson men's basketball team traveled to Ursinus at the wrong time, falling to the Bears as they extended their home win streak to seven straight games. The Bears held off a late charge by the Red Devils for a 53-50 win on Saturday.

The Red Devils opened the game with three straight three-pointers to take an early 9-3 lead. Junior Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) knocked down another three-pointer at the 15:45 mark, and back-to-back field-goals from classmate Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) stretched the lead to 20-9, with 13:35 remaining in the half.

First-years Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) extended the lead to 24-9 before a 7-0 run pulled the Bears to within eight, with 8:41 remaining in the half.

Hinnenkamp answered but the Bears closed out the half with a 10-0 run, pulling in front, 29-26. The Bears continued the run, pulling in front by five to start the second half.

Angradi scored twice, hitting another three-pointer, and Hinnenkamp tied the game at 33. The lead went back-and-forth before Ursinus strung together a 7-0 run to pull in front, 46-40.

Matt Knowles drained a three-pointer at the 3:52 mark to put the Bears on top, 52-46. Field-goals from Hinnekamp and senior Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./La Salle College) cut the deficit to two, 52-50, with 1:32 remaining in regulation.

The Devils forced a shot clock violation on the next possession but were unable to score on the other end. Joe LoStracco hit one-of-two free throws to stretch the lead to 53-50. Dickinson missed a three-point attempt and were forced to foul once again.

The Bears missed both free throws, giving the Red Devils one final shot to pull even. Following a timeout, the Devils had a shot from the top of the key, but it was off the mark.

Malik Draper led Ursinus (9-12, 6-8) with 14 points while Remi Janicot controlled a game-high 15 rebounds.

Hinnenkamp led the Red Devils with 14 points and nine rebounds. Collins added 10 points and eight rebounds while senior Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) reached double-figures with 11 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) dished out five assists on the afternoon.

The #4-ranked Red Devils slip to 18-3 overall and 11-3 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to McDaniel College on Wednesday night for an 8:00 pm tip-off.
