(Harrisburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson volleyball team swept a non-conference match at Penn State Harrisburg on Monday night, posting a 3-0, straight set victory. Dickinson had similar showings in the first two sets, claiming 25-16, 25-15 decisions. Harrisburg made a late run in the third but the Devils held off the run to win 25-18.
The Red Devils jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set and put together a run to stretch the lead to 13-6 on three straight kills from Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield). Gillian Chan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day) tallied back-to-back kills to stretch the lead to 17-11.
Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) came on strong at the end as the Devils won the set, 25-16.
Harrisburg jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the second set, and held a 9-6 advantage. The Red Devils rattled-off 11 straight points on the way to a 25-15 decision and a 2-0 lead.
Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Emily Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) gave the Devils a 3-1 lead in the third set. The Devils broke away from a 10-9 score to lead 16-10. The Lions rallied to pull within one at, 18-17. The teams traded service errors with Dickinson holding a 19-18 edge.
Smith and Park put away kills as the Devils stretched the lead to 22-18. A pair of errors and a final kill from Beecher closed out the match with Dickinson sweeping the Lions, 3-0. Smith finished with 10 kills to lead the attack, adding six digs and three blocks on the night.
Beecher tallied nine kills and Chan added six. Ahern and Park each recorded five kills and combined for five blocks. Hannah Smith (Victor, N.Y./Victor) had 26 assists, nine digs and a pair of aces. Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) chipped in with 13 digs.
The Red Devils improve to 5-9 on the season. They return home to face Penn State Altoona on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
