Box Score (Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball looked to break back in to the win column on Thursday night, but Muhlenberg closed out the game with a strong finish, slipping away with a 58-54 Centennial Conference decision.
Senior guard Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) put the Red Devils on the board with a three-pointer at the 19:02 mark. The Devils held a 7-6 advantage before Jon Schreer sandwiched a pair of three-pointers around a lay-up from Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) to put Muhlenberg on top, 12-9.
The Mules stretched the margin to 16-11 at the midpoint of the half. The game went scoreless for the next four minutes before senior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) snapped the drought to cut the deficit to three.
First-year Corey Sherman (Penn Valley, Pa./Lower Merion) came on to knock down a three-pointer and made a nice drive to the basket to keep the Devils even at 18. Classmate Michael Jurzynski (Pearl River, N.Y./The Master's School) buried a three from the corner to put Dickinson back in front, 21-18.
Schreer added a late basket to make it a one-point game at the break with the Devils up, 21-20.
Angradi got hot to start the second half, hitting a pair of three-pointers to put the Devils up, 30-26, with just over 16 minutes to play. Muhlenberg rallied to pull even, but Hinnenkamp countered with five straight points as the Red Devils put together a nice run, taking a 41-32 advantage with 8:57 remaining in the game.
The Mules came back with an 11-2 run to knot the game at 43. Nick Rindock grabbed a defensive rebound and scored on the other end to put the hosts back in front. Muhlenberg continued to build on the lead, going up 54-48, with just 33 seconds remaining.
The Red Devils continued to fight as Angradi hit another triple to cut the deficit to 54-51, with 29 seconds on the clock.
Schreer hit a pair of big free throws with 24 seconds to play. Following a Dickinson miss, he hit one-of-two to extend the lead to six. Stenger answered with a quick three on the other end and the Devils were forced to foul Schreer again with seven seconds to play. He hit one-of-two to secure the win.
Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) made a strong move trying to draw a foul on the three-point attempt, but time ran out as Muhlenberg held on, 58-54.
Schreer led all scorers with 18 points, going 7-for-10 from the free throw line, adding three steals. Jeanlee Baez recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds as Muhlenberg improves to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference.
Angradi led the Devils with 17 points, knocking down five three-pointers. Hinnenkamp finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, handing out four assists. Jurzynski tallied seven points and four rebounds while Stenger turned in a strong performance with five points, three assists and a pair of blocked shots. Hinckley added four steals, three assists and four points on the night.
The Red Devils slip to 2-9 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial. They return home to face Washington College at 4:00 pm.
