Box Score (Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team went back-and-forth in some remarkable rallies with Gettysburg College on Thursday night. The Bullets came away with a 3-0 victory, but were forced to work for every single point, capped by a 33-31, third set.
Dickinson scored the first three points of the match but Gettysburg came back to pull in front 7-4. The Bullets broke an 8-8 tie with a 5-0 run and stretched the lead to 20-10. Senior Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) served four straight points to cut the deficit to six.
Gettysburg held on to claim the opener, 25-17. The Red Devils jumped out to a 5-2 start in the second set but the Bullets answered and tied the match, once again at 8-8. The teams traded points before Dickinson went in front 15-12.
Gettysburg countered to regain the lead in the see-saw second and forced a timeout at 20-18. The teams battled through some great rallies as the score moved to 23-22. The Bullets earned the next two points to close out game two.
Gettysburg took a quick 4-1 lead in the third. The Devils recovered to cut the margin to 6-5. They traded points before a run put the hosts up, 13-8. Dickinson chipped away to close the gap and went in front, following some monster rallies to lead 19-17, forcing a timeout.
The third set ended with more epic rallies as Gettysburg finally slipped away with back-to-back points in a 33-31 decision.
Junior Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) reached double-figures, leading the Red Devils with 10 kills, adding four digs, a solo block and three assists. Anastasiya Khlopina (St. Petersburg, Russia) tallied six kills while Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) each added five.
Bongo recorded 13 digs, three assists and a pair of aces while Ahern had four digs and three block assists. Misrok served up a pair of aces and picked up 26 digs on the night. Emeline Jones (Hamilton, N.Y./Hamilton) had seven digs.
Leah Guzick (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) handed out 10 assists and had eight digs. Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott Secondary) dished out 15 assists and tallied three kills.
Laura Bergin led Gettysburg with a match-high 19 kills as the Bullets improve to 13-6 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils slip to 9-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference. They return home to face Washington College on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
