Box Score (Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team went into overtime to post a 1-0 victory at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night. The Red Devils earned key points in the Centennial Conference standings, holding the number five spot as they head into the regular season finale against nationally-ranked Franklin & Marshall.
After the match went scoreless throughout regulation, the Red Devils wasted little time ending the affair, just 1:01 into the first extra frame. First-year Brendan McGovern (Burlington, Vt./Kimball Union Academy, N.H.) finished an assist from Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) and senior Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) as they built the attack from the right side for the game-winner.
McGovern had a chance to end the match in regulation but Marshall Hanyon came away with a save in the 87th minute.
The match was just as even, statistically, with each team recording eight shots on the night. The Red Devils held a 6-4 advantage on corners as the teams combined to put six shots on net.
Hanyon finished with a pair of saves while senior Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) made three stops on the night.
Muhlenberg slips to 3-9-3 overall and 1-6-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils improve to 7-7-2 on the season and 4-3-1 in conference play.
The Red Devils return home to face the Diplomats at 3:00 pm on Saturday at Miller Memorial Field.
