Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team used a balanced attack to turn back visiting Elizabethtown College 3-0, on Wednesday night, posting scores of (25-18, 25-19, 25-21).
The Devils broke a 6-6 tie in the opening set to pull in front, 12-7. First-year Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott Secondary) made a great play on the ball to stretch the lead to 20-12 and added another kill to put Dickinson in front, 23-14.
Senior Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) served an ace to close out the first set. The Devils trailed early in the second but made a couple of nice runs behind strong serving from Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) and Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).
Dickinson capitalized on some errors and pulled in front, 20-14 on a kill from Jacqueline Banker (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy). Banker looked to end the second on an ace as well, but just missed the back line. Ahern did the honors once again with a kill to put Dickinson in front, 2-0.
Bongo had another strong serving stint in the third as the Devils pulled in front, 8-4. Banker served the Devils to a 17-9 advantage before the Blue Jays looked to make one last run. The visitors chipped away at the lead and would pull within one, 22-21.
Junior Lauren Beecher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) finished off the match, recording two kills and a big solo block in the middle for the final of 25-21.
Park led the attack with nine kills while Ahern tallied seven kills and three block assists. Beecher added five kills and four blocks while Berezan handed out 16 assists to go with five digs and four kills. Leah Guzick (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) added nine assists and three big digs on the night.
Bongo finished with four kills, four aces and seven digs, and Megan Gombatz (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) added four kills as well. Senior Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) tallied a match-high 10 digs.
The Red Devils improve to 13-11 overall. They travel to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday for a tri-match with the Diplomats and Moravian College. Dickinson will face F&M in the first match at 11:00 am.
