Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team overcame a slow start to overtake visiting Gettysburg for a 47-42 win at the Kline Center on Wednesday night.
Cody Kiefer and Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) traded three-pointers to open the game before the Bullets went on a 9-0 run to lead, 12-3, with 13:20 remaining in the half.
First-year guard Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) came on and hit a three-pointer but the Bullets answered to stretch the margin to 17-6, at the 10:44 mark. Sophomore Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) hit a three-pointer, followed by strong drives from Wright and Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) to cut the deficit to four.
Dickinson started to gain some momentum and went into halftime, trailing just 21-18. The teams traded baskets to open the second half with Tanner Kirkpatrick putting the Bullets in front, 30-24, with 15:08 left to play.
The Red Devils would find a groove and went on a 16-0 run, capped by a Corey Sherman (Penn Valley, Pa./Lower Merion) three-pointer to put Dickinson up by 10, with 8:50 remaining in the game.
Junior Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) helped trigger the run while Michael Jurzynski (Pearl River, N.Y./The Master's School) and Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) gave the Devils big minutes as well.
Wright knocked-down a three-pointer and made a strong move to put Dickinson up by 13, with 4:41 on the clock. Kirkpatrick led the Bullets on a final run, cutting the deficit to as few as three in the final minute.
Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and Stenger hit free throws down the stretch to help secure the win as Dickinson improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Cody Kiefer led Gettysburg with 16 points and five rebounds as they fall to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Wright led the Devils with 14 points, two blocked shots and a steal while Melton finished with eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks on the night. Jurzynski added seven points, three rebounds and a pair of blocks. Allen tallied four points, four rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.
The Red Devils are home again on Saturday, hosting Wilkes University on a non-conference match-up at 3:00 pm.
