Box Score (Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team battled through overtime to spoil senior day and claim the regular season finale at #22-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The Red Devils took an early lead but the Diplomats answered in the second half to force the extra-frame. Dickinson outscored the hosts, 12-10, to take home the victory, 88-86.
The game saw five ties in the opening six minutes as the teams played to a 10-10 stalemate. The Devils stretched the lead to 18-11, and went in front 21-13 on a Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) three-pointer at the 10:42 mark.
Neither team would score until the 6:51 mark when Cedric Moune hit a pair of free throws. The Devils turned a four-point lead into 10 behind three-pointers from Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Elijah Wood (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School).
Shawn Hines countered with a lay-up before Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) banged another triple for the Red Devils. The Diplomats chipped away, cutting the deficit to seven at the break.
Hinnenkamp scored right out of the break, but F&M would go to the long ball as Hunter Eggers knocked down an early three-pointer. Matthew Tate used a pair of trips to the free throw line to cut the margin to just a field-goal.
The lead would swing between one and four points until back-to-back scores from Wright and Hinnenkamp gave Dickinson a 55-48 advantage, at the 10:05 mark. Eggers came back with a three-pointer and later scored to knot the game at 57, with 7:25 to play in regulation.
The lead went back-and-forth, and would continue to do so throughout the remainder of the game. Angradi traded three-pointers with Brandon Federici, and later hit three free-throws to put the Devils up, 66-65.
F&M gained a late advantage behind a pair of Eggers free throws to give the Diplomats a 75-72 lead with 22 seconds on the clock. The Devils went for two as Hinnenkamp made a strong move on the baseline. The gamble paid off as Tate made one-of-two, to stretch the margin to 76-74.
That set up a great set play as Hinnenkamp found Wright for a lay-up to send the game into overtime.
Hinnenkamp banged two three-pointers to start overtime, putting the Devils up, 82-77. The Diplomats clawed back to within one before Angradi and Romocki combined to hit 4-of-6 free throws for a five-point lead with just four seconds left to play.
Eggers would hit a three at the buzzer, but it would be enough as the Devils held on, 88-86.
Moune led the Diplomats with a double-double, scoring 26 points to with 10 rebounds. F&M slips to 20-5 overall and 15-3 in the conference.
Angradi had a monster game, scoring 29 points, hitting 10-of-13 free throws on the day. Hinnenkamp tallied 25 points and handed out five assists. He knocked down a trio of three-pointers and controlled six rebounds.
Wright reached double-figures, scoring 16 points to go with three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists. Romocki tallied seven points while Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) chipped in with six points and four rebounds.
The Red Devils earn the #3-seed on the conference playoffs. They will play #2-seed Swarthmore College in one semifinal at Franklin & Marshall next weekend.
