Box Score 2 (Lycoming, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday at the Lycoming College Warrior Classic. Senior Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) recorded her 1,000th career dig in the Devils' first match, recording 10 against York College.
The Red Devils suffered a 3-0 setback to York, playing to a 25-23 opening set. The Spartans claimed the second, 25-12, before Dickinson put up another strong challenge in the third, falling 25-21.
Junior Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) led the way with nine kills, seven digs and a pair of service aces. Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied five kills, two aces and three blocks.
First-year setter Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott Secondary) dished out 18 assists while classmate Anastasiya Khlopina (St. Petersburg, Russia) added four kills.
The Red Devils battled to a 3-2 victory over Penn State Harrisburg in their second match. Penn State held off Dickinson, 25-22, to claim the opening set. The Red Devils countered with back-to-back games (25-21, 25-18), to pull in front, 2-1.
The Lions regrouped to win the fourth (25-18), forcing a deciding fifth set. Dickinson led for most the final stanza, but could not pull in front by more than two points until taking a 12-8 lead behind an ace and kill from Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West).
Penn State came back to tie the match at 14-14, but an attack error and final kill from Ahern secured the win for Dickinson, 16-14.
Ahern finished with 11 kills and four aces while adding six digs. Bongo recorded a team-high 16 kills to go with nine digs, two aces and a pair of assists.
Park added 11 kills, two aces and a pair of solo blocks, earning All-Tournament Team honors for the weekend.
Misrok tallied 23 digs to raise her career total to 1,028. She also had six assists and three aces in the match. Berezan handed out 23 assists, adding three kills. Grace Stromberg (Lutherville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) chipped in with seven kills while Khlopina added four.
The Red Devils move to 4-5 on the season. They return to Carlisle for their home opener on Wednesday night, hosting Penn State Harrisburg in a quick rematch at 7:00 pm.
