Box Score 2 (Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's volleyball team won its season opener and went 1-1 on day one of the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Red Devils opened with a 3-0 win over Marywood (25-19, 25-21, 25-16). Senior Arielle Misrok (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) led the way with 17 digs while junior Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) tallied 13 digs and had a team-high seven kills.
Senior Lauren Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and junior Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) each recorded six kills and combined for five blocks on the night. First-year Alex Berezan (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott Secondary) dished out 20 assists, adding five kills and eight digs while Grace Stromberg (Lutherville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) added five kills as well.
Messiah College came away with a 3-0 win in the Devils' second match-up of the night, but had to work for every point on the way. The Falcons won the first set (25-15) before surviving a tightly contested second, winning 25-23. They were able to secure the match with a 25-13 decision in the third.
Misrok had another big outing, recording 31 digs and adding a pair of service aces. Berezan handed out 21 assists and had seven digs while Bongo anchored the attack with 11 kills, adding seven digs. Park added five kills in the nightcap, along with sophomore Megan Gombatz (Farmington, Conn./Farmington), who had five as well.
The Red Devils return to Gettysburg on Saturday, facing Greensboro College at 10:00 am and Penn State Altoona at 2:00 pm.
