Wright Goes 9-for-9 in Red Devil Win

(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team made a big run late to finish strong and claim an 81-62 win at Haverford College on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Sam Lorenzo (Sterling, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) earned the start and took advantage, scoring the first basket of the game. The Red Devils jumped out to a 10-2 advantage in the opening three minutes and stretched the lead to double-figures at the 15:02 mark.

The Carolina connection of juniors Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) and Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) had a strong start for the Red Devils as well.

The 'Fords weren't going to go away quietly, coming back to cut the deficit to just four points at the 7:11 mark of the first half. The Red Devils regrouped and closed out the half with an 8-0 run to hold a 40-27 lead at the break.

Lorenzo struck first again to give the Devils a 15-point advantage in the opening minute of the second half. Haverford would cut the deficit to nine at the 11:17 mark, but then Dickinson would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Sophomore Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./Pennington School) triggered a run with a three-point play and Romocki capped it with a pair of free throws to stretch the margin to 67-47, with 5:20 remaining in the game.

The Devils used a balanced attack to make that 17-6 run and would continue to build on the lead over the final five minutes. Wright gave the Devils three of their biggest leads of the afternoon, the final coming on an and-one, to put Dickinson up, 81-56 in the final minute.

The 'Fords would net the final six points of the game for the final of 81-62.

Kyle Goldfarb was the only 'Ford in double-figures, scoring 14 points as Haverford falls to 2-17 overall and 1-11 in the Centennial Conference.

Three Red Devils reached double-digits, led by a game-high 21 from Wright. He was perfect from the field, hitting all nine shots from the floor while adding five rebounds, four assists and a steal. Romocki added 13 points and four rebounds, and Melton tallied 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting, adding six rebounds and four assists.

Lorenzo had a great outing, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds and four assists, hitting 4-of-6 shots on the day. Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) chipped in with eight points, hitting 4-of-4 free throws while Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) and Michael Jurzynski (Pearl River, N.Y./The Master's School) each scored seven points.

The Red Devils improve to 10-9 overall and 7-5 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face McDaniel College on Wednesday night, tipping off at 8:00 pm.
