Wright Nets 26 to Lead Devils Past Fords

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team closed out strong, overcoming a double-digit lead in the final 12 minutes for a 76-69 win over visiting Haverford College on Saturday afternoon.

The 'Fords jumped out to a 10-5 lead before a lay-up from Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) and a three-pointer from Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) tied the game at the 13:56 mark.

Haverford used a 10-2 run to stretch the lead to 28-16, with 7:45 to play in the first half. The 'Fords would extend the lead to as many as 15 in the opening stanza. Brown closed out the first half with back-to-back scores to cut the deficit to 38-29 at the break.

Brown later cut the margin to just five, hitting a three-pointer at the 17:55 mark. Haverford continued to battle, building the lead back to 13, with just under 14 minutes to play.

Joe Hartman gave the 'Fords a 10-point lead with 12:12 remaining before the Red Devils started to make a run. Wright triggered the rally, hitting a three-pointer while being fouled, and adding two more free throws to cut the deficit to just four, at the 10-minute mark.

Wright fed Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) with a beautiful feed for a lay-up to tie the game, 65-65, with four minutes to go in regulation.

First-year guard Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) buried a huge three-pointer from the corner with the shot clock running down, putting Dickinson on top for good with 3:03 left to play. Allen found Sam Lorenzo (Sterling, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) with a nice pass for a lay-up and Wright hit two free throws for a seven-point advantage.

The Devils hit 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to secure the win, 76-69.

Joe Scibelli led Haverford (2-9, 1-4) with 23 points and 13 rebounds while Matt Sherman and Sam Stogdon each added 10.

Wright led the way for the Red Devils, scoring 26 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Brown finished with 18 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals while Lorenzo and Allen each tallied nine points. Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) and Stenger combined for 13 rebounds on the day.

The Red Devils improve to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday night before returning home to face Ursinus College on Thursday at 8:00 pm.
