Diplomats Top Red Devils for Homecoming Win

(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team ran into a highly inspired Franklin & Marshall on Saturday as the Diplomats opened their new stadium on homecoming weekend. The Diplomats erupted for 49 points in the first half, on the way to a 56-0 decision.

Tanner Erisman scored twice and Jeff Leone returned a 35-yard interception for a touchdown as F&M tallied 28 points in the opening quarter. Talib Gerald ran to pay-dirt three times in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 49-0 at halftime.

The Red Devils held the Diplomats scoreless throughout the third quarter and held F&M to just one score in the fourth for the final.

F&M amassed 444 yards of total offense while holding the Red Devils to just 11 yards on the day.

Sophomore James Turner (Ridgefield, Conn./Suffield Academy) led the defense with 12 tackles while Matt Butz (Monkton, Md./Hereford) recorded seven and Erik Dettloff (Fallston, Md./Fallston) added six stops. First-year Taj DeFrance (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) recovered a fumble to go with six tackles and John Minicozzi (Media, Pa./Episcopal Academy) recorded a sack.

F&M improves to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 2-5 on the season and 2-4 in conference. The Red Devils return home next weekend, hosting Juniata College at 1:00 pm.
