Devils Make Strong Showing on Military Appreciation Night

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) The Dickinson women's volleyball team turned in a great performance and played to a five-set thriller with visiting McDaniel College on Wednesday night. A loud crowd filled the Kline Center with tremendous energy as the Red Devils hosted Military Appreciation Night. The Red Devils welcomed guests from the U.S. Army War College as Lieutenant Colonel Sally Hannan joined the team as an honorary captain and Colonel Jeff Greenwood sang the national anthem to help celebrate the event.

McDaniel would come away with the 3-2 win, but not before a marathon battle through five sets.

The Red Devils jumped out to a great start, winning the opening set, 26-24. McDaniel took an early lead, but Dickinson erased a four-point deficit to pull in front, 19-18. They closed out the opening set strong to pull in front 1-0.

The Green Terror looked like they were finding a groove, claiming the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-13. The Red Devils were not done quite yet, however, countering in the fourth set, 25-20.

First-year Tatiana Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas) served the Red Devils to an 8-0 lead to start the fourth. The Terror looked to battle back in the middle of the set but Dickinson would hold off the charge.

McDaniel used a solid start in the fifth to gain some early separation, leading 8-4 as the teams switched ends. The Red Devils cut a 10-5 deficit down to just a point and trailed, 12-11, before the Green Terror captured the final three points to win the match.

Senior Anastasiya Khlopina (St. Petersburg, Russia) led a great attack with 14 kills and a pair of blocks. First-year Jamie Singer (Livingston, N.J./Golda Och) reached double-figures with 10 kills and 10 digs, adding a pair of aces.

First-year Kristin Allgaier (Reston, Va./South Lakes) dished out a match-high 36 assists, adding 11 digs while Lopez finished with 24 digs on the night.

Senior Norma Jean Park (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied eight kills, four digs and a pair of blocks while Erin Bongo (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) had seven kills and five digs. Sophomore Kacey Waleski (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had a solid night as well, recording 18 digs and two aces.

The Red Devils slip to 9-16 overall and 2-7 in the conference. They travel to Gettysburg College for the regular season finale on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
