#25 York Rallies Late to Escape Devils 66-63

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team turned in an outstanding effort against unbeaten and #25-ranked York College on Tuesday night. The Red Devils had the Spartans right where they wanted them in the second half, but the visitors would rally to escape with a 66-63 win.

Dickinson had a strong start, taking an early 11-6 lead. Senior Justus Melton (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) finished a nice dish from classmate Chris McNeal (Collegeville, Pa./Episcopal Academy) to give the Red Devils an 18-11 advantage, at the 10 minute mark.

Jason Bady knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game at 21 before Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal O'Hara) answered with a three-pointer and lay-up. The Red Devils had the final possession of the half and Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) buried a three-pointer for a 33-25 lead at halftime.

Melton opened the second half with a three-point play to give Dickinson its biggest lead of the night, 36-25. The Red Devils were able maintain a 10-point advantage throughout most of the second half.

Sophomore Bryce Allen (Albany, N.Y./The Hill School) hit a pair of free throw to put the Devils up, 60-51, with just over three minutes to play.

The Spartans chipped away at the lead, using a late run to pull in front, 64-63, in the final minute of the game. York added single free throws on the next two possessions after the Red Devils were unable to convert on the offensive end.

The Devils had one final shot, but three- quarter court effort from Romocki was off the mark.

Jared Wagner led York (9-0) with 18 points, going 12-for-14 from the foul line. Blayde Reich added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Melton led the Red Devils with 17 points and nine rebounds on the night. Allen tallied 16 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists while Romocki added 16 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Hickley finished in double-figures with 10 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jon Stenger (Midlothian, Va./James River) had a solid performance, pulling down 11 rebounds, and Sam Lorenzo (Sterling, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) gave the Devils quality minutes as well, grabbing six rebounds.

The Red Devils slip to 5-4 overall. They are home again on December 30, hosting Misericordia University at 3:00 pm.
