Box Score (Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team rallied to overtake Gettysburg, claiming a thrilling, 59-57 win on Wednesday night.
The Bullets jumped out to an early 7-2 lead but the Red Devils would come back, tying the game, 13-13, on a Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) three-pointer.
Gettysburg built an 11-point lead but Brown closed out the half with two more three-pointers as the Devils made a run to pull within three at the break, 30-27.
The Red Devils struck first in the second half, but the Bullets answered to take a 36-29 lead in the opening four minutes. Moses Romocki (Creedmoor, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) made a nice cut and finished a feed from Sam Lorenzo (Sterling, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) to make the score 40-35.
Dickinson capitalized from the charity stripe as Romocki grabbed an offensive rebound and converted an and-one to cut the deficit to 42-40, and Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) tied the game at the midpoint of the half with a pair of free throws.
Gettysburg strung together a three-pointer and a lay-up to pull in front by five before sophomore Harrison Brown (Huntington, W. Va./The Miller School) buried a three-pointer off an assist from Michael Jurzynski (Pearl River, N.Y./The Master's School). Jurzynski traded a field-goal with free throws to keep the Devils within two at the five-minute mark.
The teams traded field-goals again with Jurzynski picking up another assist on a jumper from Romocki. Cam Stewart and sophomore Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) then swapped three-pointers and each team hit a free throw to give the hosts a 55-53 advantage.
Jurzynski tied the game with just under two minutes to play but a foul on the other end put the Bullets back in front. Wright finished a drive down the lane and the Devils forced a crucial turnover with just 27 seconds remaining in the game.
The Red Devils ran the clock all the way down and put the ball in the hands of Wright. He was fouled and went to the line with three seconds on the clock, calmly sinking both to put Dickinson on top, 59-57.
The Bullets threw the ball to half-court and called timeout with two seconds remaining. A last second effort was off the mark as the Red Devils improve to 13-9 overall and 10-5 in the Centennial Conference.
Romocki led the Red Devils with 13 points while Wright tallied 11 points, four assists and a pair of steals. Hinckley tallied seven points, seven rebounds and three steals while Jule Brown went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc for nine points. Jurzyzski added eight points, three rebounds and three assists.
Mlynue Reeves led Gettysburg with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as the Bullets fall to 7-15 overall and 6-9 in the conference.
The Red Devils travel to Ursinus College on Saturday for a 3:00 pm tip-off with the Bears. The teams are currently tied for third in the conference standings.
